Report: Russia to open 2nd corridor for flights to south on Jun 12

MOSCOW, Jun 9 (PRIME) -- The Russian government plans to open a second air corridor for flights to the country’s south on June 12 to shorten the flight time and expand capacity, RBC business daily reported late on Thursday quoting sources in two local air carriers.

“A second air corridor will be open for the flights to Russia’s south from June 12 to reduce the flight time. The route’s capacity will expand because the corridor opened in August 2022 could have no more than 15 flights per hour,” RBC reported.

A source told the business daily that Russian airlines have already received information about the new corridor, while another source said that airline pilots received notifications about changes to the southern air space.

The government restricted flights to the airports of Russia’s south on February 24, 2022. A 10-kilometer corridor for flights to the south was opened on August 30, 2022, but it is used only for flights from Moscow to the airport of Sochi and to Turkey. Other flights have to use the air space of Kazakhstan.
